Project Camera Obscura 1-00 Camera Obscura 1-00 is a worldwide project in which two holes of a twin-holed pinhole camera are being auctioned simultaneously on Ebay every week. This project is dedicated to the polish artist Roman Opalka and his work 1965/1-00. The highest bidders in each case receive one after the other a pinhole camera loaded with a piece of unexposed sheet of 5x7 Inch b/w film. They punch a hole with the enclosed needle and expose their own photograph in turn. Because of the minimal distance between the two holes the two photos overlap partly, so that a joint picture emerges, created by two people in different parts of the world. In the course of time a sort of photographic global puzzle will emerge - one continuous series of parallel exposures. All participants will receive by post an actual sized print of the partially superimposed photo which they made. At a later date the cameras will be displayed together with the parallel exposures in a permanent exhibition in the Galerie Merid in Stuttgart. They will also be published on the Internet site of the project www.gallery-merid.com In the Spring of 2006 all works to date will be published in a catalog.

ERNST MÚZEUM ¢ BUDAPEST ¢ D O R O T T Y A G A L É R I A H-1051 Budapest, Dorottya u. 8. ¢ T / F: (+36 1) 266 0877 ¢ e-mail: dorottya_galeria@axelero.hu Regina Schmeken THE NEW CENTRE. PHOTOGRAPHS 1989-2000 18 May – 10 June 2004 At the beginning of the 90’s, there was no question occupying the minds of the travelling circus of the intellectual political elite more passionately than that of the intellectual position of Central Europe. Conjecturing as to just where the new centre of Europe was ran the debate from Bucharest to Warsaw, from Trieste through Vienna to Prague. It is clearly understandable that, especially in times of bold, unforeseeable reforms, nobody wants to remain standing on the edge. The edge is considered to be a danger zone. It is common knowledge that a particularly biting wind blows there, and the shadow play in which the white elements are exceptionally white and the black exceptionally black startles those lingering there. No explanation is required for this in Germany. For more than half a century, they have been on the outermost edge, whether this position is viewed from Washington or from Moscow. Suddenly, in the last decade of the last century, they became the centre. It is without a doubt that it was on their own initiative, yet to a greater extent, it is rather owing to the fortunate circumstances of international politics. The expectations placed on the centre should not be too high, yet weighty impulses are expected from the core, those which spread wave-like to the edges. In the words of Immanuel Kant, the centre is not exalted, nor is it beautiful; it is, however, indispensable. The centre is a point we cannot escape. A new position, even if it is perhaps only an old position regained, requires provisions differentiating the past from the present. It demands a different cut, a more resolute appearance, a bolder pattern, a more clearly-defined tone. In any case it demands a new perspective. Does Germany understand the art of this pose? We can decide this upon seeing the pictures of Regina Schmeken, which show well-known events, personalities and locations, arresting time in order to avert it. The photographic and artist links subjects with her particular selection of images that hover around the catchword of “centre”, transmitting a novel interpretation and approach to things through her unusual and surprising pairings. Regina Schmeken, as a virtuoso, masters the visual world of these centres, playing with the notion, provoking and, most of all, entertaining herself and the viewers of her images equally. The exhibition titled Die neue Mitte (The New Centre) was opened on 1 October 2001 at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, and since autumn 2002 it has been presented as a touring exhibition by the Goethe-Institut. (after Tilman Spengler) Berlin, July 1995, German Parliament Reichstag, wrapped by Christo The exhibition is opened on Tuesday, 18 May at 6 p.m. by His Excellency Gergely Pröhle, Ambassador of Hungary in Bern (Switzerland) The exhibition is on view Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The exhibition is supported by Goethe Institute and Kodak Kft. www.ernstmuzeum.hu

I have been trying to go to Moscow for the Foto Fest for the last few days - from Lithuania its a little complicated with visas etc so now via Latvia - its a strange life isnt it? Well it warmed the cockles of my heart to see your website - on superficial glance it doesnt appear to be stuck in any modernist timewarp - for a start you have women included, such simple details as these make all the difference - unlike the english foto world which largely does appear to be trapped - Northwest England even worse just check out a private view at the Open Eye Gallery for example to see the testosterone swaggering around with their billingham bags...very inspiring......

If you like Black & White photography, you should read this! On the first of March 2004, Agfa started the second Agfa Black and White Competition with the motto „move it!“. You can both picture scenes from official sport events and such as taken from the street like rollerblading. In June, a jury of experts will chose the best shots from all entries. The first three winners will each be rewarded with a Hasselblad camera 501 CM. Additionally, the Agfa multicontrast packages will bear their names and motives in 2005. Agfa offers a further incentive by publishing the best pictures in a sophisticated photo calendar and a „Walk of fame“ during the Photokina 2004 in Cologne, presenting the most interesting shots. The closing date for entries is 28 May 2004. http://www.agfa.com/photo/multicontrast-competition/

Hello, I'm laughing as I write this because of the irony involved in sending an unsolicited email to someone about a spammer. Basically, I stumbled across the page of your web site http://www.equivalence.com/entree/ent_bit_spammers.php because it includes a reference to the spammers at edirectadvertising and thought you might find the article I've written about them interesting or humorous. If you enjoy it and think your site's visitors might too, I'd appreciate a link to the article from your web site. It's another way to reinforce how much of a scam service this spammer is offering. Third Annual Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day Sunday 27 April 2003 The Third Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day (WPPD3) will be celebrated all over the world on Sunday, 27 April 2003. Pinhole photography and other lensless picture-making processes offer a unique, creative way of looking at the world, opening our eyes to the essence of space, time, light, and image in a manner impossible to reach through a regular camera. This year WPPD3 keeps faithful to the global vision of its founders: to create a grassroots egalitarian event open to anybody, anywhere who is interested in pinhole photography and is willing to share their personal and magical views of the world. On Sunday 27 April, pinhole photography will be honoured in many ways: workshops, exhibits, lectures and special gatherings. But the true, major celebration will be the making of a unique, international lensless-photography web gallery, gathering all the participants' pictures made on that day and sent to the WPPD exclusive web site. In 2002, more than 900 pinholers from 35 countries, without distinction of age, background or prior photographic experience, sent their picture to the WPPD site; this gallery, accessible in 14 languages (!), has been seen by thousands of visitors. Everyone is invited to participate and to join the hundreds of enthusiasts all over the planet: get your creative energy ready and enjoy the making of lensless pictures on 27 April. All participants will have until 31 May to select one image and post it on the gallery at www.pinholeday.org. WPPD is the result of the work of a group of volunteers from across the globe, brought together by their special awareness of how beauty and creativity may emerge through a tiny, simple hole in a light-tight box. Their combined efforts and individual skills contribute to make this event an ever-growing success, allowing more and more people to discover the beauty and mysteries of pinhole photography. For more detailed information about WPPD3 on 27 April and how to participate, visit the dedicated web site at www.pinholeday.org. There, besides admiring the galleries of work from WPPD1 and WPPD2 participants, you will also find useful information and links on pinhole photography to help you prepare for and become a part of WPPD3! Hallo Leute, Ich bräuchte mal eure Hilfe. Also viel spass beim zeriss, Daniel

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen. Hello. My name is Rosanne Stutts. I am a high school photography and art teacher and I am now one of the members of the steering committee for the 2002 Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. I am writing to you to ask if you will include this coming event in your magazine, in either print or online. Look at last year's gallery, you will see that more than 300 photographers from 24 countries participated in the event. That was quite a feat, since the conception of the idea and the date of April 29, 2001 was only 3 months apart. For more information and to see the gallery of images from Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2001, go to www.pinholeday.org. This is in no way a commercial venture. Please consider this event announcement for inclusion in your publication. I feel this event bonds the world together under the common interest of photography, specifically pinhole photography. We need your help to get the word out to the world. We are an organization of pinhole photographers and would appreciate your help. www.pinholevisions.org I would appreciate it if you would direct me to a contact person, email or snail mail address, and the deadlines that I need to know. The event will be April 28, 2002 and the announcements need to be in place with you long before then. Another possibility is a link to the gallery and the information pages. If that is better, please let me know. We have a custom button link. If there is a information or discussion or event page, I have a Press Release you may use below. Thank you for your time. Rosanne Stutts rosanne@pinholeday.org Augusta, Georgia, USA ATTENTION PHOTOGRAPHERS, ARTISTS & CREATIVE PEOPLE YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN THE 2ND WORLDWIDE PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY DAY The Second Annual Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day will be Sunday, April 28, 2002 and pinhole photographers from around the world are invited to participate in this global event that will be seen in an exhibition on the internet. Continuing the tradition established in the first Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, photographers will make pinhole photographs during the twenty-four hour period of April 28, 2002. The photographs can be submitted to the coordinating team for publication in the gallery at http://www.pinholeday.org. The Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day was created in 2001 and was celebrated by more than 300 participants. Join the thousands of professional and amateur photographers around the world, all seduced by the beauty of these often-surreal images. Make a photograph on April 28 and be a part of a collective celebration of life's rhythm. The imagination of pinhole photographers knows no limits -- these lensless cameras range from a simple oatmeal box to a transformed camping van. Transform any light-tight container and join in the excitement. For more information and to see the gallery of images from Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2001, visit us at www.pinholeday.org. Dear author Muller-Pohle, Our magazine http://photo.box.sk has been created to be a photo gallery and a headway to guide photo fans to master their craft. We have displayed over 500 photographers from all over the world so far and thus attracted quite a few viewers. To keep up we are expanding our activities in some new areas. One of them is a column called “About my photography” which we have designed to feature the authors we highly respect and consider their great contribution to fine art photography. The idea behind this project is to present all: your pictures, your philosophy to photography, reasons why the images have come into existences, the ways they have been created. We would like to exhibit overall presentation of outstanding authors. Your websites provide a lot of material to help us meet the objective of the column, i.e. there are your photographs, expression of your ideas, opinions, comments on your work. This is to ask you for your permission to make a good use of the material available on your websites. We guarantee a non-commercial use of your property and presence of your copyright and your URL. Please let us know if you are interested in the project. Karol Hatala http://photo.box.sk
